Instructions

This test is not offered by Beaumont Laboratory; however, the Laboratory can facilitate specimen collection. Testing requires the ordering physician to complete all required forms from the independent clinical laboratory performing the testing. Please call the Send Outs Laboratory at 248-551-9045 to request testing. Specimens received without the appropriate forms and information will not be shipped.

Specimen Collection Criteria

Collect:

• Adult: Three Lavender-top EDTA tubes or two Yellow-top ACD tubes.
• Child: Two Lavender-top EDTA tubes or one Yellow-top ACD tube.
• Prenatal: 10 mL amniotic fluid or one T-25 flask of confluent fetal cells.

Physician Office/Draw Specimen Preparation

Do not centrifuge. Maintain specimens at room temperature (20-26°C or 68-78.8°F) prior to transport.

Preparation for Courier Transport

Transport: 10 mL (adult) or 5-7 mL (children) whole blood, 10 mL amniotic fluid, or T-25 flask, at room temperature (20-26°C or 68-78.8°F).

Rejection Criteria

• Specimens received without prior laboratory notification and review.
• Specimens not collected and processed as indicated. 

In-Lab Processing

Do not centrifuge. Maintain specimens at room temperature (20-26°C or 68-78.8°F) prior to transport.

Transport: 10 mL (adult) or 5-7 mL (children) whole blood, 10 mL amniotic fluid, or T-25 flask, at room temperature (20-26°C or 68-78.8°F).

Storage

Specimen Stability for Testing:

Send specimens to the Laboratory at room temperature (20-26°C or 68-78.8°F) immediately after collection.

Specimen Storage in Department Prior to Disposal:

Specimen retention time is determined by the policy of the reference laboratory. Contact the Send Outs Laboratory with any questions.
