This test is not orderable. Please refer to Varicella Zoster Virus by PCR listing "Varicella Zoster Virus" as the suspect agent. Please contact the Microbiology Laboratory with any questions.

Storage

Room temperature (25^o C): 6 hours
Refrigerator temperature (2-8^o C): 3 days
DO NOT FREEZE SPECIMENS AT -20^o C. Freezing VZV at -20^o C for 24 hours causes a 99% reduction in viral titer compared with a 10-30% reduction when specimens are frozen at -70^oC (1).
