Test Methodology
Semi-Quantitative Flow Cytometry.
Clinical Utility
- Normal neutrophil function is dependent on a number of properties including migration toward the site of infection, phagocytosis, and anti-microbial activity. Measuring the Neutrophil Oxidative Burst indirectly assesses anti-microbial activity.
- Patients with Chronic Granulomatous disease (CGD) may have an absent oxidative burst due to defects in neutrophil function.
