Clinical Utility

Adenosine deaminase is one of several red cell enzymes inherited as autosomal dominant. Elevated activity (50-70 X normal) associated with reduced ATP levels have been described in a few cases of congenital hemolytic anemia. Reduced levels have been associated with some cases of severe combined immunodeficiency.
