Laboratory
Sent to ARUP Laboratories, Salt Lake City, UT. Forwarded to NMS Labs in Horsham, Pennsylvania.
Performed
Results available in 8-10 days.
Reference Range
By report.
Test Methodology
High Performance Liquid Chromatography/ Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).
Interpretation
Quinidine is eliminated by both renal and metabolic processes, therefore kidney or liver disease or advanced age could impair clearance and increase serum or plasma concentrations.
Clinical Utility
Quinidine is a naturally occurring alkaloid which is used to treat both atrial and ventricular arrhythmias cardiac arrhythmias. Quinidine has a narrow therapeutic index and the therapeutic and toxic effects have been shown to be related to quinidine serum concentrations. To obtain optimum therapy, monitoring of serum levels of quinidine in patients receiving the drug is recommended.
