Interpretation
Drugs identified: Methadone, Methadone metabolites
Concentrations of drugs and/or metabolite(s) detected in urine have not been correlated to drug levels in the bloodstream or with the degree of impairment. The presence of a drug and/or metabolite(s) in urine is only an indication of previous drug exposure.
Clinical Utility
Methadone is a synthetic narcotic analgesic that is similar to morphine. Methadone is commonly prescribed as the drug of choice in the maintenance treatment of heroin addicts. Patients in methadone therapy are routinely screened for methadone as a measure of compliance. This assay is used to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of methadone use or abuse. This assay provides a preliminary analytical result.
