Specimen Collection Criteria
Collect: One plain Red-top tube. (Minimum Whole Blood: 2.0 mL)
Do not use Serum Separator Tubes.
Record the exact time of specimen collection on the tube or in the computer system.
Critical frozen. Send specimen for processing immediately after collection.
Physician Office/Draw Specimen Preparation
Critical frozen. Let specimen clot 30-60 minutes then centrifuge to separate serum from cells within one hour of collection. Transfer serum to a plastic transport tube and freeze (-20°C/-4°F or below).
Preparation for Courier Transport
Transport: 1.0 mL serum, frozen (-20°C/-4°F or below). (Minimum: 0.4 mL)
Rejection Criteria
- Severe hemolysis.
- Serum Separator (SST) tubes.
- Specimens not collected and processed as indicated.
In-Lab Processing

Clinical Utility
Isoniazid acts against actively growing tubercle bacilli. It is indicated in the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis in which the organisms are susceptible. This assay is used for the therapeutic monitoring and toxicity assessment of isoniazid.
