Instructions
Please see Minimum Pediatric Specimen Requirements,
also known as the Pediatric Specimen Requirements Minimum.
Specimen Collection Criteria
Collect: A random urine specimen in a screw-capped container (preferred) or other sterile collection container. (Minimum: 10 mL for pediatric and adult patients).
Refrigerate the specimen immediately after collection.
Record the exact time of specimen collection on the container or in the computer system.
Physician Office/Draw Specimen Preparation
Maintain specimen refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46°F) prior to transport.
Preparation for Courier Transport
Transport: Urine, refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46°F). (Minimum: 10 mL for pediatric and adult patients)
Rejection Criteria
- Specimens not collected and processed as indicated.
- Urine Vacutainer® tubes. Urine received in a glass or plastic tube with a rubber stopper may contain insufficient sample volume, preclude confirmatory testing, and give rise to contaminants and artifacts.
In-Lab Processing
Analyze specimen immediately upon receipt in the Laboratory.
Storage
Specimen Stability for Testing:
Room Temperature (20-26°C or 68-78.8°F): 72 hours
Refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46°F): 7 days
Frozen (-20°C/-4°F or below): 3 months
Specimen Storage in Department Prior to Disposal:
Refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46°F): 7 days

Oxycodone Screen, Urine | cutoff = 100 ng/mL |
Phencyclidine (PCP) Screen, Urine | cutoff = 25 ng/mL |
Test Methodology
Automated enzymatic immunoassay.
Interpretation
Drugs detected by the immunoassay screening procedures represent tentative findings and will be reported as "Unconfirmed positive."
Confirmation testing by mass spectrometry methods must be ordered separately, either with the initial drug screening order or within 7 days of sample collection. NOTE: GC/MS analysis component of the Comprehensive Drug Analysis (EPIC LAB7162, CMPD2) does not replace confirmation testing for these drug classes:
Amphetamine/Methamphetamines, Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, Cannabinoid, Cocaine, Fentanyl, Methadone, Opiates, Oxycodone, Phencyclidine (PCP)
The laboratory will no longer automatically perform confirmation testing on positive THC screen in patients 21 years of age or older. If a confirmation is needed, please call the lab to add the test on to the original specimen.
