Laboratory

Sent to ARUP Laboratories, Salt Lake City, UT.

Performed

Saturday – Sunday
Results available 3-6 days.

Reference Range

None detected.

Test Methodology

Semi-Quant Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay and Qualitative Immunodiffusion.

Interpretation

A positive result may suggest active or recent infection. The test is positive in about 80% of cases. Cross reactions occur, especially with histoplasmosis. A negative test (none detected) does not exclude blastomycosis.

NOTE: This test uses a partially purified "A" antigen of Blastomyces dermatitides.

Clinical Utility

This assay is used to aid in the diagnosis of Blastomyces dermatitidis infections.
