Allergen Weeds Screen 1

Weeds 1 (wx1) , Antrim #32020, EPIC: LAB5554, SOFT: EWX1

Instructions

This multi-allergen IgE antibody assay screens for the following allergens: Common Ragweed, Goosefoot (Lamb's Quarters), Mugwort, Plantain (English), and Russian Thistle/Saltwort.

Specimen Collection Criteria

Collect: One Gold-top SST tube.

Twenty individual allergen assays or allergen screens can be performed on one 5 mL Gold-top SST tube. Each allergen assay requires 100 mcL of serum.

Physician Office/Drawsite Specimen Preparation

Let specimen clot 30-60 minutes then immediately centrifuge to separate serum from cells. Refrigerate (2-8°C or 36-46°F) the centrifuged collection tube within two hours of collection.

Preparation for Courier Transport

Transport: Centrifuged collection tube, refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46°F).

Rejection Criteria

  • Plasma specimens.
  • Severely lipemic or hemolyzed specimens.

Storage

Centrifuged SST tubes may be transported and stored at ambient temperatures (20 to 300 C; 360 to 860 F) for up to 48 hours. DO NOT FREEZE TUBES CONTAINING BLOOD. For longer storage, the serum should be removed from the gel and refrigerated (20 - 80 C) or frozen at -200 C or below.

Red-top tubes and Microtainers® may be stored at ambient temperatures for up to 16 hours and for up to 3 days at refrigerator temperatures (20 - 80 C). DO NOT FREEZE TUBES CONTAINING BLOOD. For longer storage, the serum should be removed from the clot and refrigerated (20 - 80 C) or frozen at - 200 C or below.

Serum specimens (pour-overs) may be stored at room temperature (200 to 260 C; 680 to 790 F) for up to 1 week, refrigerator temperature (20 to 80 C; 360 to 470 F) for two weeks, and at -200 C (-40 F) for up to 3 months. Specimens stored at - 700 C (-940 F) can be stored indefinitely.

Interpretation

This multi-allergen IgE antibody assay screens for the following allergens: Common RagweedGoosefoot (Lamb's Quarters), Mugwort, Plantain (English), and Russian Thistle/Saltwort.

Clinical Utility

Positive assay results indicate a high probability of allergic disease induced by one or more of the allergens present in the multi-allergen panel. Negative assay results effectively rule out allergy induced by those allergens.
