Laboratory

Sent to ARUP Laboratories, Salt Lake City, UT.

Performed

Sunday – Saturday
Results available in 1-4 days.

Reference Range

Not detected.

Test Methodology

Quantitative Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction.

Interpretation

The quantitative range of this assay is 3.0- 7.0 log copies/mL (1,000-10,000,000 copies/mL).

Clinical Utility

Detect and quantify adenovirus groups A-F. Diagnose adenovirus in patients. Monitor disease and/or response to therapy. A negative result (less than 3.0 log copies/mL or less than 1,000 copies/mL) does not rule out the presence of PCR inhibitors in the patient specimen or Adenovirus DNA concentrations below the level of detection of the assay.  Inhibition may also lead to underestimation of viral quantitation.

No international standard is currently available for calibration of this assay. Caution should be taken when interpreting results generated by different assay methodologies.
