Hepatitis Be Antigen

HBeAg , WARDE: HBEAG, EPIC: LAB6050, SOFT: XHBEG

Instructions

A patient must have an abnormal Hepatitis B Surface Antigen in order to perform this test.

Specimen Collection Criteria

Collect (preferred specimen): One Gold-top SST tube.
Also acceptable: One plain Red-top tube or Lavender-top EDTA tube.

Send specimen for processing immediately after collection.

Physician Office/Drawsite Specimen Preparation

Centrifuge to separate serum or plasma from cells. Transfer serum or plasma to a plastic transport tube and refrigerate (2-8°C or 36-46°F) immediately.

Preparation for Courier Transport

Transport: 1.0 mL serum, refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46°F). (Min: 0.5 mL)

Rejection Criteria

  • Grossly hemolyzed specimens.
  • Lipemic specimens.
  • Specimens not collected and processed as indicated.

Storage

Ambient: Up to 24 hours acceptable, but not preferred.
Refrigerated: 7 days
Frozen: Indefinitely (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)

Performed

Tuesday, Friday.
Results available in 2-5 days.

Reference Range

Negative.
