Fast 12 hours prior to specimen collection.

Specimen Collection Criteria

Collect (preferred specimen): One Greiner Bio-One Clot Activator Tube.
Also acceptable: Two plain Red-top tube.

Serum specimens drawn in any other gel barrier collection tube will be rejected, due to interfering substances that make them unacceptable for NMR analysis.

 

Physician Office/Draw Specimen Preparation

Let specimen clot for 30 minutes then centrifuge to separate serum from cells within 8 hours of collection. Transfer serum to a plastic transport tube and refrigerate (2-8°C or 36-46°F).

Preparation for Courier Transport

Transport: 4.0 mL serum, refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46°F). (Minimum 2 mL)

Rejection Criteria

• Serum Separator (SST) tubes.
• Plasma.
• Specimens not collected and processed as indicated.

In-Lab Processing

Refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46°F): 14 days
Frozen (-20°C/-4°F or below): Unacceptable
