Liver Function Panel, Antrim #19048, EPIC: LAB5071, SOFT: HEPFP

Specimen Collection Criteria

Collect: One Gold-top SST tube. (Minimum Whole Blood: 4.0 mL)

Contact Laboratory for acceptability of other tube types.
See Minimum Pediatric Specimen Requirements for Microtainer® collection.

Physician Office/Drawsite Specimen Preparation

Preparation for Courier Transport

Transport: Centrifuged SST tube, refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46°F). (Min: 0.5 mL)

Rejection Criteria

  • Moderate to grossly hemolyzed specimens.
  • Red-top tubes with serum not separated from cells within two hours of collection.

Reference Range

See specific tests for reference ranges.
This panel includes: AlbuminAlkaline PhosphataseALTASTBilirubin, DirectBilirubin, Total, and Total Protein.

Test Methodology

Spectrophotometry.

Interpretation

See specific analytes for interpretation.
This panel includes: AlbuminAlkaline PhosphataseALTASTBilirubin, DirectBilirubin, Total, and Total Protein.

Conditions which compromise liver function are associated with increased enzyme levels and bilirubin and decreased albumin. An increased direct bilirubin is seen with intrahepatic or biliary tract obstruction. Total protein may be increased or decreased in liver disease.

Clinical Utility

This panel is used to evaluate or monitor liver function.
