Lactose Tolerance Test

Specimen Collection Criteria

The Breath Hydrogen Test is the preferred test for detecting lactose or other dissacharide malabsorption syndromes. It is non-invasive and more sensitive than the traditional Lactose Tolerance Test. As a result, the traditional blood-based Lactose Tolerance Test was discontinued on April 21, 2000. Requests for the Lactose Tolerance Test will automatically be converted to the more sensitive Breath Hydrogen Test.
