Instructions

The following drugs are included in confirmation testing:

 Amphetamines  Amphetamine, Methamphetamine, MDA, MDMA 
 Barbiturates  Phenobarbital, Butalbital, Secobarbital, Pentobarbital
 Benzodiazepines:  Diazepam, Nordiazepam, Temazepam, Oxazepam,  Alprazolam, Clonazepam, Lorazepam, Midazolam, Flunitrazepam, Flurazepam, Triazolam, Estazolam, Clobazam, Chlordiazepoxide 
 Cocaine  Cocaine and metabolites 
 Methadone  Methadone and metabolites
 Opiate /  Oxycodone /  Fentanyl  6-Acetylmorphine, Codeine, Morphine, Hydrocodone, Hydromorphone, Oxycodone, Oxymorphone, fentanyl, norfentanyl 
 Phencyclidine (PCP)  Phencyclidine, 3-methoxy phencyclidine 
 THC-Cannabinoids  THC

Specimen Collection Criteria

Collect: A random urine specimen in a screw-capped container (preferred) or other sterile collection container. Minimum is 10 mL for both pediatric and adult patients.

Physician Office/Draw Specimen Preparation

Maintain specimen refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46°F) prior to transport.

Preparation for Courier Transport

Transport: Urine, refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46°F). (Minimum: 10 mL for pediatric and adult patients.)

Rejection Criteria

  • Specimens not collected and processed as indicated.
  • Urine Vacutainer® tubes. Urine received in a glass or plastic tube with a rubber stopper may contain insufficient sample volume, preclude confirmatory testing, and give rise to contaminants and artifacts.

In-Lab Processing

Analyze specimen immediately upon receipt in the Laboratory.

Storage

Specimen Stability for Testing:

Room Temperature (20-26°C or 68-78.8°F): 72 hours
Refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46°F): 7 days
Frozen (-20°C/-4°F or below): 3 months

Specimen Storage in Department Prior to Disposal:

Frozen (-20°C/-4°F or below): 1 month

Performed

Sunday – Saturday, 24 hours a day.
STAT screen results available within 1 hour of receipt in the Laboratory.
Confirmation results available in 3-48 hours.

This panel includes urine screening for: Amphetamine/Methamphetamines, Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, Cannabinoid, Cocaine, FentanylMethadone, Opiates, OxycodonePhencyclidine (PCP).

Test Methodology

Immunoassay, Gas Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometery (GC/MS), Liquid Chromatography/Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS/MS).

The confirmation component of this test was developed by Beaumont Health. It has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. The laboratory is regulated under CLIA as qualified to perform high-complexity testing. This test is used for clinical purposes and should not be regarded as investigational or for research.

Interpretation

This panel includes urine screening for:  Amphetamine/MethamphetaminesBarbituratesBenzodiazepinesCannabinoidCocaineFentanylMethadoneOpiatesOxycodonePhencyclidine (PCP).

Positive findings will be reported as "Unconfirmed positive." Confirmed results will follow within 3 to 48 hours. 

The laboratory will no longer automatically perform confirmation testing on positive THC screens in patients.  If a confirmation is needed, please call the lab to add the test on to the original specimen and the sample will be sent out to a reference laboratory for confirmatory testing.
